
The DPE lined up a number of interactive activities to mark the International Day of Peace on the 21st September 2021. The highlight of the day was the morning session where the yearlong course on peace education for teachers was launched and the statement of the UN Secretary General. The civil society, Moshoeshoe Institute for Peace and Leadership of the National University of Lesotho, the National Reforms Authority, students, teacher formations and the HWPL reacted to the statement by highlighting the significance of schools in reclaiming the humanity that UN Secretary General rightly points out that has been lost. The teacher training on peace was found to the sure route to wards recovering for equitable and sustainable world.

The other activity was the planting of peace trees at Mokoallong High School. This marked the beginning of school orchards in the 24 schools that DPE works with under Peaceful School Model. Principals, teachers, students, parents were extremely happy about the initiative, and they see it as a practical way of helping students to be positively engaged in their education. The Ministry of Forestry pledged support to the initiative. DPE looks forward to supporting schools to build student participation structures and supporting teachers to work with students.
