DPE CAPTURES YOUTH VOICES AND PERSPECTIVES ON LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AND POLICY ADVOCACY

On the 6th to the 14th of January 2025, Development For Peace Education (DPE) has held youth dialogue sessions under Youth Power Hub initiative in four different districts namely Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek, Quthing and Qacha’s Nek to solicit youth voices on government issues both at the national and district level, challenges and opportunities that youth are encountering. The most highlighted issues that emerged in all the districts include unplanned pregnancies of young girls, rape, crimes, child headed families, high rate of unemployed, lack of youth participation in decision making both in district and national level. Therefore the dialogue let to the constructing of an action plan for these issues.

The dialogue session was attended by grassroots Civil Society Organizations (CSOS)  both the selected and deselected to be in the Youth Power Hub, each dialogue per district had a total participants of 30 youth.

The Youth Power Hub is a joint initiative of the European Union (EU), UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) designed to foster an inclusive, participatory and accountable environment that empowers young people in Lesotho to actively participate in decision-making processes, ensuring their voices are heard and their engagement is sustained over time.
