The peace agent organizations HWPL and DPE had a successful breakfast meeting with the Ministry of
Education and Training (MOET). The meeting was attended by the Minister, the Principal Secretary, the
Deputy Secretary, and all the top officials. This took place at Mpilo Boutique Hotel, Maseru, on Friday,
the 24th October 2025.
This high-profile meeting served as a follow-up on the request by the DPE, to which the Ministry of
Education was asked to consider institutionalizing the Peaceful School Model in all the schools. Two
teachers from schools that introduced this model physically participated in a meeting, while the other
two were virtually participating. These schools provided testimonies on the effectiveness of the model.
And they were thankful that DPE introduced it to the schools.
The HWPL provided a theoretical part of Peace Education and how it changed the lives of different
nations across the world. While DPE was reporting about its application through the Peaceful School Model (PSM).
The Minister of Education was highly appreciative of the introduction of Peace Education and expressed
that he cannot question its importance in schools. However, it is not desired to add workload of the
students. He reiterated that he fully agreed with the initiative, as no one would refuse to leave
peacefully in his/her family, community, country, and in the entire world. However, he instructed the
management to make a full investigation into those schools where it is applied. At the end of the study
on this model, they should advise the ministry accordingly. Having been advised by the Ministry of
Education officials, the matter shall be taken to the cabinet for final decision.
Following the Minister’s comments, the HWPL suggested that it is significant to have timelines regarding
his proposal of inspection and ours, as the two partners need to pursue the Ministry on the assignment.
